WOW panel questions

From DFM Wiki

These questions were prepared for the World Ocean Week Small-Scale Fisheries Open House panel presented by DFM. The moderator was Ben Belton and panellists were Tara Nair, Mostafa Hossain, Sujani Anupama, Wickrama Shalika Laksan, Sisir Pradhan, and Gayathri Lokuge.

Panelists will explore the overarching question: How might we better describe, support, and promote diverse forms of “value” in dried fish value chains?

  1. What are some of the different types of value associated with dried fish in your study area?
  2. Would you say that DF value chain actors are primarily small-scale? Why do you suppose that is?
  3. Do you find that people from different backgrounds value dried fish in different ways?
  4. In your experience and interactions with other DFM members, have you observed any differences in the values ascribed to dried fish across different sites in S. Asia, or between S and SE Asia?
  5. Is there anything that have you learned from your research with DFM that has challenged your expectations about dried fish?
  6. Which of the values associated with dried fish emerge from your research as most important, and why?
  7. Have you identified any changes taking place in the way that dried fish is valued in your study area?
  8. How does dried fish figure in state policy and development activities in the area where you work?
  9. What actions can help to support dried fish value chains that create diverse, positive values?
