Help:Zotero account
Our Zotero account is associated with the email address [[1]]. The Zotero account can be accessed with the following credentials:
- Username: driedfishmatters
- Password: ********
The group library is available online at https://www.zotero.org/groups/2183860/dried_fish_matters. For guidance on user access, see Help:Zotero web library and Help:Zotero tags.
Storage subscription
Files in the group library count against the library owner’s storage quota. Currently we are enrolled in the UNLIMITED storage tier, which costs US$ 120/year and needs to be renewed every October. (As of May 2022, we were on the 6GB tier and had consumed 91% of the storage; the storage tier was adjusted and the subscription end-date pro-rated accordingly.)
U of M purchasing card policy does not allow us to use recurring payments, so in principle the auto-renew feature should be disabled. Derek can pay for the renewal, or the project coordinator (if a continuing employee) can obtain a VISA Purchasing Card following the online instructions.
API access
For automatic data requests (i.e., querying Zotero through a computer program), you will need the following credentials:
- Library ID: 2183860
- API key: ********
(API keys can be generated and retrieved for any account at https://www.zotero.org/settings/keys.)
Adding members
Administrators of the Dried Fish Matters library are users derek_s_johnson and ericdthrift. The owner is user driedfishmatters.
To provide access to new users, go to https://www.zotero.org/groups/2183860/settings/members and send an invitation. They will need to click on the link in the invitation email, then click the red “join” button on the library description page.
All group members can view, add, and delete files. Only trusted people (project members) should be granted membership privileges since it is burdensome to recover from major changes to the Zotero library, which may be more likely with untrusted and potentially malicious users.
Backups
Any user who has enable file sync will have a full version of the Zotero data on their computer, provided that they open the desktop client regularly and have enabled the preference Sync > Settings > File Syncing > Sync attachment files in group libraries using Zotero storage > Download files at sync time.
For the preference General > Automatically remove items in the trash deleted more than ___ days ago, select a large number of days. That will allow deleted files to be reviewed periodically and restored if the deletion was accidental.
To recover from a major data loss, use the actions described at https://www.zotero.org/support/kb/sync_reset_options. MAKE A BACKUP of the local data directory first. See the locally stored backup files in the Zotero data directory, as described at https://www.zotero.org/support/zotero_data#restoring_your_zotero_library_from_a_backup. In general, these actions should be taken in emergency situations only.
