Summary

Description

Infographic on "The contribution of small-scale artisanal fisheries and aquaculture to food systems".

For World Oceans Day 2021, the International Institute for Environment and Development (IIED) produced an infographic to show the contribution of small-scale artisanal fisheries and aquaculture to food systems.

With the United Nations having declared 2022 the International Year of Artisanal Fisheries and Aquaculture, IIED is working to focus global attention on the importance and the role played by small-scale fishers, fish farmers and fish workers.

The infographic emphasises the importance of small-scale fishers and aquaculture value chains to the livelihoods of coastal communities across the world. The practice is estimated to support the livelihoods of around 660-820 million people.

Published in collaboration with The University of Manitoba / Dried Fish Matters, Wageningen University, WorldFish, Instituto Universitario de Investigacion Social y Turismo - Universidad de La Laguna, Centre for Environmental and Marine Studies, and Universidade de Aveiro.
