2022-04-01. End of 2022 Fiscal Year
Academic Partner Organizations will need to complete and submit the F300 financial reporting form AND the Statement of Partner Contributions by the end of April. Please see https://driedfishmatters.org/wiki/Partner_year-end_reporting_guideline for details. In its review of our mid-term report, SSHRC found that partner contributions were a bit low. We strongly encourage all partners to review their contribution commitments and to include all eligible contributions in the year-end report.
2022-05-10. World Small-Scale Fisheries Congress
The 4th World Small-Scale Fisheries Congress (4WSFC) is a transdisciplinary forum for anyone interested in small-scale fisheries to participate in an interactive discussion about the world's small-scale fisheries. The purpose of the congress is to facilitate knowledge exchange, foster collaboration, and mobilize support for the viability and sustainability of small-scale fisheries. Considering the Covid-19 global pandemic, and recognizing the need to strengthen regional networks and organizations, the 4WSFC will take place in five regions of the world. The first congress in the series is the 4WSFC Asia-Pacific, which will be held in Shizuoka City, Japan, on May 10-13, 2022. DFM will present a session that includes three mini-workshops guided by the following questions: What are DFM’s key comparative findings about dried fish social economies in Asia and about the mapping of "knowledge" as an emergent practice? What do we learn about the nutrition that dried fish affords from a social economy perspective? And what are the key emerging lessons for collaborative research practice from the DFM project? See https://driedfishmatters.org/wiki/WSSFC_2022 for details. We will also be running a pre-launch event of our DFM e-book, offering several chapters as early downloads and introducing some of the key themes from the book.
2022-06-18. Sustainable Gastronomy Day
The DFM e-book will be formally released on 18 June, 2022 to coincide with global observance of SUSTAINABLE GASTRONOMY DAY. We invite all members of the DFM Partnership to share further ideas for actions celebrating the role of dried and cured fish as sustainable gastronomy. In its proclamation of Sustainable Gastronomy Day, the UN General Assembly acknowledges that gastronomy is a cultural expression related to the natural and cultural diversity of the world and affirms its vital contribution to agricultural development, food security, nutrition, sustainable food production and the conservation of biodiversity. Building on our commitment to furthering research into the "social economy" of dried fish in South and Southeast Asia, we intend to celebrate the role of dried fish as one that is deeply "gastronomical" – in the sense of being embedded in cultural life and foodways – but also as vitally linked to sustainable development.
