The DFM students and faculty advisors held a meeting on November 20, 2021 to initiate a formal Student Group within the project. The group meets periodically to address the practical challenges of proposal writing, fieldwork, and analysis. We are pleased to highlight the participation of graduate students in the DFM project. Students are divided into groups by when they started.
First group of students
- Sisir Pradhan (PhD student, University of Waterloo) is working to link Social-Ecological Systems and value chain approaches in the study of dried fish.
- Madu Galappaththi (PhD student, University of Waterloo) did a study on themes related to Interactive Governance, social well-being, and gender in Sri Lanka.
- Mahfuzar Rahman (PhD student, University of Manitoba) is writing his dissertation based on research with dried fish processors in Bangladesh.
- Sami Farook (PhD student, University of Manitoba) intends undertake a trend analysis using the 2000-2016 Bangladesh household income and expenditure surveys and will lead the stacked value chain survey for Bangladesh.
- Aklima Akter (Master's student, University of Manitoba) is studying gender issues among women engaged in the dried fish sector of Bangladesh.
- Wae Win Khaing (PhD student, University of Manitoba) will study social relations and gender in dried fish value chains.
- Nova Almine (Master's student, Memorial University) will be studying dried fish and fisheries in Thailand.
- Jessie Varquez (PhD student, University of Manitoba) is studying dried fish production in the Philippines.
- Alexia Pigeault (affiliated student in the European International Master of Science in Marine Biological Resources / IMBRSea) did a study of communications within the DFM project.
