We are pleased to highlight the participation of graduate students in the DFM project. This year we have seven PhD students and one Master’s student at three Canadian universities, as well as one affiliated overseas Master’s student.
- Sisir Pradhan (PhD student, University of Waterloo) is working to link Social-Ecological Systems and value chain approaches in the study of dried fish.
- Iroshani Madu Galappaththi (PhD student, University of Waterloo) will explore themes related to Interactive Governance, social well-being, and gender.
- Mahfuzar Rahman (PhD student, University of Manitoba) is beginning anthropological field research with dried fish processors in Bangladesh.

The DFM students and faculty advisors held a meeting on November 20 to initiate a formal Student Group within the project, which will be meeting monthly to address the practical challenges of proposal writing, fieldwork, and analysis.
