2022-04-18. Partner Financial Statements and Contribution Statements DUE

Thanks to all for your continuing work on the Dried FishMatters project. As the 2022 fiscal year ended on March 31, all partnerorganizations listed on our grant will now need to prepare and submit anend-of-year (1) financial statement and (2) statement of partner contributions.Please send these two reports to dried.fish.matters@umanitoba.caby no later than APRIL 18. The forms and guidelines are available on our website: https://driedfishmatters.org/wiki/Partner_year-end_reporting_guideline ALL PARTNER ORGANIZATIONS should send us an internalexpense sheet indicating how any funds spent this year were allocated. This can be produced as a spreadsheet in whatever format works best for you. Wedo not need fully itemized accounts or receipts. ALL PARTNER ORGANIZATIONS should submit a PartnerContribution Statement, regardless of whether you have received any directfunding from the project or not. SSHRC highlighted in theirresponse to our Mid-Term Report that the contributions to date have been lowerthan expected, so please look at our suggestions and report as much as you areable: https://driedfishmatters.org/wiki/SSHRC_Guideline:_Examples_of_cash_and_in-kind_contributions. NON-UNIVERSITY partner organizations (VSS, DFYWA, NAG,Dakshin Foundation, CEPA) do not need to complete the SSHRC financial statementform but should submit a general accounting statement to us and retain all receipts. All ACADEMIC partner organizations will submit thefinancial statement using the SSHRC "F300" form. This asks you toreport your income and break down your expenses by category. 2022-05-10. World Small-Scale Fisheries Congress

The 4th World Small-Scale Fisheries Congress (4WSFC) is a transdisciplinary forum for anyone interested in small-scale fisheries to participate in an interactive discussion about the world's small-scale fisheries. The purpose of the congress is to facilitate knowledge exchange, foster collaboration, and mobilize support for the viability and sustainability of small-scale fisheries. Considering the Covid-19 global pandemic, and recognizing the need to strengthen regional networks and organizations, the 4WSFC will take place in five regions of the world. The first congress in the series is the 4WSFC Asia-Pacific, which will be held in Shizuoka City, Japan, on May 10-13, 2022. DFM will be hosting a roundtable consisting of three mini-workshops. 2022-06-18. Sustainable Gastronomy Day: Launch of the Dried Fish Matters e-book

The DFM e-book will be formally released on 18 June, 2022 to coincide with global observance of Sustainable Gastronomy Day. We invite all members of the DFM Partnership to share further ideas for actions celebrating the role of dried and cured fish as sustainable gastronomy. In its proclamation of Sustainable Gastronomy Day, the UN General Assembly acknowledges that gastronomy is a cultural expression related to the natural and cultural diversity of the world and affirms its vital contribution to agricultural development, food security, nutrition, sustainable food production and the conservation of biodiversity. Building on our commitment to furthering research into the "social economy" of dried fish in South and Southeast Asia, we intend to celebrate the role of dried fish as one that is deeply "gastronomical" – in the sense of being embedded in cultural life and foodways – but also as vitally linked to sustainable development.

2022-06-22. DFM webinar: Findings and reflections from Karnataka DFM project

This webinar will be presented by the DFM Karnataka team, and will focus on their research process, findings and reflections, including a discussion of future directions. As members of the DFM Partnership may already know, the Karnataka team has studied competition between dried fish and fishmeal value chains, among other aspects of the dried fish economy of Southwestern India, bringing important new perspectives to governance in that region. The team has also modelled research methods that may be of interest to other teams within our project, including a Google Forms based survey instrument and partnership with NETFISH (Network for Fish Quality Management and Sustainable Fishing).
